NAOMI FUKS

Naomi Fuks is an Israeli multidisciplinary contemporary artist, painter, designer, and illustrator whose work combines figurative imagery with layered mixed-media techniques. Born in 1966, she has developed a practice centered largely on the human figure, using faces, bodies, color, texture, and overlapping visual elements to explore emotion, identity, and the space between reality and imagination.

Fuks studied painting and drawing at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv and later studied photography and illustration at the Vital Center for Design Studies. Her background across these disciplines has shaped an approach that moves between traditional painting, illustration, and digitally assisted image-making.

Her mixed-media process often begins with a drawing or photographic image that is developed digitally before being transferred to canvas and worked further with acrylic paint and other materials. Layers of color, translucent forms, symbols, and textures are combined with carefully controlled areas of light and shadow, giving her compositions a sense of depth and visual movement.

Portraiture and the human form remain central to Fuks’s work. Her paintings range from expressive representations of cultural and entertainment figures to more imaginative compositions in which recognizable faces interact with decorative patterns, abstract passages, and symbolic imagery. The influence of Gustav Klimt can be seen particularly in her use of ornament, layered surfaces, and the relationship between the figure and its surrounding decorative space.

Fuks has presented her work in solo and group exhibitions in Israel and internationally, including exhibitions in Italy and Japan. Across painting, illustration, and mixed media, her practice continues to examine how layers of imagery, color, and human expression can build visual narratives that move between observation, memory, and imagination.
