AWENI ADAMS

Born in 1985 in a coastal community in Western Australia, Aweni Adams is an artist whose work embodies the intersection between the earthly and the spiritual. Raised in a region known for its ancestral connection to the land, her work reflects a deep sensitivity to narratives of belonging and transformation.

Adams studied fine art at Curtin University in Perth, majoring in painting and visual arts. During her university years, she developed a particular interest in exploring themes related to the connection between humanity and nature, as well as the spirituality inherent in landscapes and traditions. She uses symbols that refer to both aboriginal traditions and universal imaginaries, proposing new readings of the balance between humanity and nature.

Adam’s work combines traditional techniques such as oil painting with contemporary approaches such as installations and textile art, creating a distinctive visual language. Her work began to stand out for her innovative use of textures and colors that evoke transitions between the physical and the ethereal.

After completing her studies, Aweni participated in several artist residencies, both in Australia and abroad. These experiences, which included stays in Japan and Indonesia, had a significant impact on her artistic development, allowing her to incorporate international influences into her work. Her exhibitions have been shown in major galleries, such as the Art Gallery of Western Australia, and she has participated in biennials in Asia and Europe.

In addition to her studio work, Aweni is involved in community projects, leading workshops in remote communities in Western Australia. These programs encourage artistic expression and cultural inclusion, especially among youth and indigenous communities.
