SAMUEL M SAUCEDO

Samuel Muñoz Saucedo is a Spanish painter, illustrator, and draughtsman whose figurative practice examines contemporary reality through carefully constructed scenes and symbolic imagery. Born in Madrid in 1994 and closely associated with Pozuelo de Calatrava in Ciudad Real, his work is grounded in drawing and painting while incorporating digital processes into the development of his compositions.

Saucedo graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Seville in 2016 and completed a Master’s degree in Art: Idea and Production at the same university in 2020. He has also pursued doctoral research within the field of Art and Heritage. His academic training is complemented by a sustained interest in traditional pictorial technique, drawing, and the role of research in the development of each work.

Oil painting is central to Saucedo’s practice. His process often begins with the collection of photographic references, which he combines digitally to create preliminary compositions before transferring them to canvas. This method allows him to construct scenes that appear recognizable while introducing unexpected relationships between figures, environments, and objects.

Horses have appeared repeatedly within his paintings, often placed in unusual or unsettled environments. Rather than functioning solely as animal studies, these figures become a means of reflecting on human experience and the uncertainty of contemporary life. Other bodies of work turn toward landscape, architecture, deterioration, and abandoned spaces, examining how physical environments can carry traces of time, change, and memory.

Saucedo has participated in exhibitions and painting competitions in Spain. His work was included in La Fórmula Emotiva at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Seville in 2021, and in 2025 he presented Lo que es, lo que será y ¿qué será? at the Museo Cristina García Rodero in Puertollano, an exhibition centered on a pictorial vision of ruins and transformation. In 2026, his work Que se cae was selected for MUREC Almería’s exhibition of young Spanish artists working within realism and figuration.
